Please let me introduce myself

Hi everyone, my name is Jon Jones and I am from right here in North County. I was born in Oceanside, Ca and I grew up in Vista, Ca. All my K-12 years of school were spent in Vista, as I went to Beaumont Elementary School, Lincoln Middle School, and then Rancho Buena Vista High School. Mira Costa Community College in Oceanside was my next stop and then I transferred to Cal State San Marcos. I got my BA in History in 2005 and now I am back to get my credential (hopefully). I am twenty seven years old and I have been married for almost three years to my beautiful (and very patient) wife Lindsay. We are currently expecting our first child to be born sometime in early March. I am very excited (and maybe a little nervous) to be a Dad, but I can't wait to meet our little boy! I currently work as a driver for Federal Express, where I have been for the last five years.

My experience with technology is pretty basic, I would say for most part I am a novice. I can use programs like Word and Powerpoint and also get myself on the internet and use itunes and stuff like that. Basically I can do the simple stuff and that's about it. I have never used a Mac until our class last Tuesday, so I would definitely have to classify myself as a PC person. I definitely depend on technology in my daily life, as I go online everyday to read the news and get information (usually on espn or learning about baby stuff).

I had never read the COE Mission Statement until now, so it wasn't really a factor for me in my decision to apply at CSUSM. However, after reading it I would say the section on ongoing service impacted me the most. I want to get into teaching because I want to serve people, first and foremost the students I teach and second the community as a whole. I think the idea of ongoing service is powerful because to me that is what I want to embody as a teacher.

Hey Jon
Yes it was quite a surprise to see you walk into our first class in your uniform. It had been almost a month since I had left and so I am still adjusting to a difference in my life. I look forward to hearing about your experiences and congratulations on the baby. I am very envious.

You'll love being a dad. But nothing prepares you for some sleepless night that is ahead of you in march. But it get easier w/ the 2nd & 3rd babies. Pursuing credentialling will benefit your children so keep it up.
